This free video with guest host, professional artist and my lovely friend from uni, Charlotte Beare, will take you all the way from transferring a reference photo using a grid, to shading, values, depth, and realism in drawing an eye, using just one HB pencil.

Badibidu besty Charlotte Beare is guest teacher for this video and has generously shared all of this with you to give more confidence in your sketching but also to provide a way to relax creatively no matter where you are, using the simplest art material ever - a pencil and paper!

All you need is an HB pencil (or whatever you have), a piece of smooth white paper, a rubber, a pencil sharpener and a small ruler.

- Learn common drawing terminology such as hatching, cross hatching, graduating, blending and more.

- You will learn how to draw with your rubber!

- Get taught by an experienced tutor, who teaches with all of the skills and none of the jargon.

Drawing, sketching and doodling can be a great mindfulness practice and way of unwinding on your own or with family/friends, no matter where you are.

This is a tutorial which is taught gently but focuses on realistic details, whilst keeping the antiperfection mantra in mind. It's perfect for beginners or those looking to 'level up' their drawing skills, and whilst it's relaxing it requires a little bit of concentration to get started.

This is a *pre-recorded* virtual session, based on the popular antiperfection art group session which runs live every week with an absolutely lovely gang of attendees. These pre-recorded sessions are approximately 30-40 minutes long, but you can re-watch them and hopefully they will set you off full of inspiration for as long creating as you need.

How it's made

My paintings are created in layers of watercolour, gouache and ink. High-quality paints and 300gsm acid-free paper ensure the colours are vibrant and my experienced print provider has selected the best high gsm paper to reproduce this on so that the colours are matched closely to the original. Please note that some colours may look different on varying computer screens compared to natural light.
